Together we can create safer pool environments

According to the National Drowning Prevention Alliance, there are over 4,500 drowning deaths each year in the United States alone. Drowning is a leading cause of death in children under 14, and nearly 70% of all toddler drownings occur during non-swim time.

Prevent Pool-Related Drowning

Simple steps can keep pools secure and prevent a tragedy including:

  • Barriers and Alarms – Four-sided fencing, code compliant latches, and gate alarms can keep children from accessing pool areas unsupervised.
  • Supervision – Always supervise children around pools.
  • Water Safety Skills – Learning to float and swim decreases the chance of drowning by 90%.
  • Emergency Preparation – Get CPR-certified and keep a phone nearby to call 911.

Essential Water Safety Tips

Here’s how you can help reduce child drownings and entrapments.

Door Alarm

According to research from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other safety organizations, ~77% of children involved in drowning incidents were missing for less than five minutes before being found in the pool.

Pool Barrier

Four-sided pool fences with a proper pool latch surrounding swimming pools can reduce the risk of drownings by 83%

Swimming Lessons

Start children early on with swimming skills that could be life-saving such as ISR Self-Rescue Survival Swimming Lessons

Adult Supervision

Approximately 70% of children involved in drowning incidents were not expected to be in or near the pool at the time of the accident.

Swim Responsibly

According to the CDC, 70% of adults who drown in recreational water activities have alcohol in their system, contributing to a higher risk of injury and death.

Safety Precautions

Always have an emergency life ring buoy on-hand. You can also invest in safety equipment for inexperienced swimmers – life jackets and arm bands in a variety of sizes that can support swimmers of all sizes.
